Kaminoya Mingei Ryokan Kaminoya, one of the oldest and most established inns in Takachiho, was established in 1930, and has now given a new lease of life to "Takachiho Remote Inn Kamikakure". The restaurant has a modern Japanese design atmosphere that combines the traditional Japanese garden and culture of Takachiho with a modern system.
In addition, the guest rooms are all ”detached buildings”. Furthermore, all rooms, from the entrance to the bath, are barrier-free, so that families with small children and wheelchair users can spend a comfortable stay.

All eight guest rooms are ”detached” structures consisting of independent wings, each with a different approach and an original garden, making them completely private. In addition, in order to cut down on any excess noise, the garden is covered with cobblestone steps at intervals where you can put your feet down to enjoy your private time to the fullest.

Breakfast: Colorful breakfast in a mountain village
(Seven-color sashimi, saikyo-yaki trout, yose-tofu, freshly baked dashimaki-tamago (egg roll), etc., which varies depending on the season. (The contents vary depending on the season.)

The most popular breakfast at this inn is a Japanese-style meal consisting of a large number of carefully prepared small bowls of food, centered around seven small baskets of food made with an abundance of the blessings of the mountains. It is said that most guests finish the meal even the day after they have eaten a full dinner at Kamigakure with its rich variety of dishes.

interview (i.e. television, newspaper, etc.)

The inn is the keystone that connects the beginning and the end of a journey. Inheriting the thoughts of our predecessors from "Kami-no-ie," we will continue to pursue hospitality while seriously dealing with each moment.

 Manager: Yujiro Sato

Q: When did you open?

"This year, April 16, 2014. Although we just started this inn, it was originally founded in 1930 as a relocated and newly renovated inn called 'Kaminoya,' and we have over 80 years of history in the inn business."

Q: By the way, what kind of ryokan was "Kami no Ie"?

The concept of the ryokan was based on the traditions and rusticity of Takachiho, with a Japanese-style folk craft ryokan decorated with sunken hearths and traditional handicrafts, and meals centered on local cuisine using mainly ingredients from the mountain villages. It had a very homey atmosphere that made us feel like we were back home."

Q: Why did you decide to relocate?

”For some time now, we have wanted to create a space where we could offer a higher quality of service and a more relaxed atmosphere where you can open up your mind and body.” After several years of planning and discussions with my predecessor, we decided to move to a new location. To ensure the highest level of service, only eight guest rooms were built, all in a detached style to create a separate and private space."

Q: Your image has completely changed from "Kami no Ie".

Yes, the design and systems are completely different from its predecessor ”Kami no Ie,” but we have inherited our predecessor's desire to ”cherish the traditional culture of Takachiho” and the traditions and spirit of "Kami no Ie," and have built the facility in a way that allows visitors to feel the locality of Takachiho. For example, the roof of the administration building, which is the center of the facility, is made of "Chigi," an architectural style that has been handed down in Takachiho since ancient times, and the guest rooms are decorated with motifs of the four seasons in Takachiho. The meals will continue to be prepared using mainly ingredients from the mountain villages as before, but will also include original and creative meals using local ingredients in a course format so that guests can become more aware of Miyazaki Prefecture.

高千穂離れの宿 神隠れ

Q: What is the origin of the name "Kamihide"?

In Takachiho, the myth of the opening of the Gate of Heavenly Rock is still alive. When Amaterasu Omikami hid in Iwayado and the world was enveloped in darkness and chaos, the eight million deities held a meeting in Ama-no-Angawara and came up with a plan. This is a famous myth. The name "Takachiho" was chosen because there are many key words related to the present Takachiho and because the atmosphere of this area surrounded by terraced rice paddies reminds us of the myth.

Q: The guest room design is unique.

The theme of the guest rooms is ”Kacho Fugetsu” (Flower, Bird, Wind, and Moon), and they are named after the ancient colors of Japan, inspired by the four seasons of Takachiho. Each room has a different original design, with wallpaper, interior design, and furniture that closely resemble the ancient colors of Takachiho. While being conscious of the culture of Takachiho and the good old traditions of Japan, the rooms are furnished in a Japanese modern style and modern systems are installed for convenience and comfort, and the interior design is also conscious of the field of vision when sitting on a sofa or lying on a bed in the room.

Q: It's been just over three months since you opened, how do you feel now?

It is difficult to provide hospitality and service. It is essential to work closely with the staff to provide timely service. This is even more so because the premises are so large. We have new graduates and beginners in the hospitality industry who came from completely unrelated occupations, so of course we need to educate them on the beauty of manners and customer service. I feel that we must grow together with the ryokan as we seriously face ”omotenashi” and gain experience.

Q: What are your goals for the future?

We offer various plans, such as anniversary plans, women's travel plans, and hanayu plans, which can be easily found on our website. We are sincerely committed to providing the best service so that our guests can say, ”I had the best trip ever because I stayed at this inn. Our staff is full of unique talents, including people who specialize in the arts and people who have been involved in food-related events. We are looking forward to taking on various challenges while making the most of our specialties.
