Prince Ice World 2023-2024 A NEW PROGRESS - Saga Performance Report
On Saturday, May 13, 2023, "Prince Ice World 2023-2024 A NEW PROGRESS - BROADWAY CLASSICS - A Musical on Ice" was held at the grand opening of SAGA Arena in Saga City. Musical on Ice" was held on June 10 (Sat.) and 11 (Sun.), 2023, for a total of three performances.
Prince Ice World (hereafter PIW) was established in 1978 as the first ice show in Japan.40With a history spanning more than a year, the PIW team of 22 professional skaters is known for its powerful group dances and unique performances by top skaters from Japan and abroad. This season, under the title of "A NEW PROGRESS - BROADWAY CLASSICS", the PIW team will perform classic numbers from Broadway musicals such as "Guys and Dolls", "The Sound of Music", "The Man from La Mancha", "Les Miserables", and "Miss Saigon" as well as popular musical numbers. Each famous song is performed by the Kanagawa Philharmonic Orchestra, and the original songs are recorded with vocals by the talented stars who are leading the Japanese musical world. In addition to their skating skills, the dancers took on the challenges of theatrical and musical dance, and made full use of their rich individual expressive abilities to create a rich variety of content.
Also, for the first time, the Saga performance will feature 10 guest skaters, including Torino Olympic gold medalist Shizuka Arakawa, Pyeongchang Olympic bronze medalist Javier Fernandez, Pyeongchang Olympic silver medalist Masama Uno, who is the current world champion, Takeshi Honda, Miki Ando, Nobunari Oda, Takahashi Daisuke, Yanaka Muramoto, Detective Tanaka, Marin Honda, and Mochiyui Honda. The newly opened SAGA Arena was a glamorous and unique musical world different from the competitions, with skaters' performances on the ice and a high level of entertainment through a fusion of lighting and laser lighting technology.
The SAGA Arena is the largest arena in Kyushu, with four floors above ground, seating up to 8,400 people, as well as wheelchair seats, box seats, family seats, VIP rooms and premium lounges, making it a multipurpose arena capable of hosting large-scale professional sports events and concerts. The expectations were high for Japan's premier ice show, which had just been unmasked, and all three performances held this time were fully booked, attracting a total of 17,000 spectators.
PIW members and guest skaters faced the audience, which stretched from the first to fourth floors, and posed, smiled, waved, and cheered for the audience in response to their requests. The event was a great success.
*The wearing of masks and infection control measures are at the discretion of the individual, and the guide guides participants to be considerate of their surroundings by talking loudly, cheering, and practicing coughing etiquette in the venue.
*This report is a summary of three performances over two days.
